When Jackie set out to reconfigure her entire home, she knew her floors would play a crucial role in unifying the new layout. Originally, her mid-century home featured 1950s hardwood floors that had been covered by carpet for years and were still in decent shape. But with plans to knock down walls and expand their living space by 300 square feet, Jackie faced a unique challenge. Keeping the original floors would have been impractical, given the creaky subfloor and the difficulty of finding a match for the original narrow hardwood. Jackie’s vision? A seamless, clean look that echoed the home's history while embracing a modern edge.
With a whole-home remodel on her hands, Jackie’s project was ambitious. Not quite a full build and far beyond a cosmetic upgrade, her home went from a 3-bed, 2-bath layout to a newly configured 4-bed, 2.5-bath home with an open, modern living area. She knocked down walls, added square footage, and brought her own design expertise into every detail.
"Navigating the website and ordering samples was incredibly easy. I say this as someone who has BOXES full of samples from various brands of flooring, tile, paint, wallpaper, fabric... you name it." Jackie explains. "It's been one of the least stressful parts of our build..”
Choosing Craftsman for a Modern Yet Authentic Look
With her organic modern style in mind, Jackie carefully selected materials, colors, and textures that would create a clean yet edgy aesthetic. Flooret’s Nakan Craftsman from the Modin LVP Collection emerged as the perfect choice, embodying the classic look of narrow hardwood while bringing a fresh, modern feel. The Craftsman plank resonated with the architecture of her 1600-square-foot home and honored its original hardwood floors while offering a durable, resilient surface for everyday family life.
"We're so glad we went with the Craftsman plank, which simulated the original 1950s narrow hardwood we had to replace and really fits the architecture and physical footprint of our home.”
Durability Meets Style in Family Life
As a mom of two toddlers, Jackie needed a floor that could stand up to the “destructive experimentation phase” her kids are in, while still looking designer-quality. The Nakan Craftsman planks have held up beautifully to daily wear and tear, balancing the practical needs of a young family with Jackie's vision for an elevated look.
“The floor feels like a huge piece of the personality & design of our home, not just something that is in the background.”
A Complete Vision, Perfectly Executed
Jackie’s final result reflects her vision down to the details, including the paint colors that complement her Nakan Craftsman floors: Benjamin Moore’s "Chantilly Lace" for her trim and walls, and Sherwin-Williams’ "Mindful Gray" and "Iron Ore" for her cabinetry. Guests often comment on her floors with a delighted, “I LOVE your floors!”—a testament to the impact the Craftsman planks have had in tying her home's design together.
Balancing style, durability, and budget, Jackie’s remodel is a perfect example of how transformative the right flooring choice can be.
